Evaluation and Therapy Services for Children in East Providence, RI
Our Approach to Therapy
At Competent Communicators, we believe every child is competent, capable, and deserving of acceptance exactly as they are. We meet children where they are by building on their strengths, interests, and unique ways of communicating. Our therapy is family-centered, neurodiversity-affirming, and rooted in meaningful relationships because we believe communication grows through connection, play, and joy.
Whether a child communicates through speech, gestures, AAC, or a combination of communication methods, we create individualized therapy plans that honor their unique communication style while supporting meaningful growth across everyday environments.
We do not believe in one-size-fits-all therapy. Instead, we focus on communication that is meaningful, functional, and respectful of each child's autonomy. By partnering closely with families, we help children build confidence, strengthen relationships, and develop communication skills that support participation at home, in school, and throughout their communities.
Competent Communicators proudly serves children and families in East Providence, Rhode Island, and surrounding communities throughout Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts.
Comprehensive Evaluations to Understand Your Child’s Unique Communication Needs
At Competent Communicators, we believe an evaluation should do more than identify challenges. It should help families better understand how their child communicates and provide a clear path forward. We offer comprehensive, family-centered evaluations that are individualized to each child's unique strengths, interests, and communication needs.
Our evaluation services include speech and language evaluations, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) evaluations, assessments for gestalt language processors, and early intervention evaluations for children ages 0 to 3. Every evaluation is designed to provide meaningful, practical recommendations that support communication across home, school, and everyday life.
Our evaluations are:
Play-based, child-led, and responsive to each child's regulation, interests, and sensory needs.
Individualized to honor each child's unique communication style and developmental profile.
Supportive of all forms of communication, including speech, gestures, AAC, and multimodal communication.
Collaborative, with parents and caregivers serving as active participants throughout the evaluation process.
Focused on identifying communication strengths, understanding functional needs, and developing meaningful, individualized recommendations for next steps.
